Updates & maintenance

A maintenance notice players can actually use

Started 25 Oct 2026 · Locked discussion

This is a planning guide for server organisers, not an announcement of a scheduled outage. A useful maintenance notice explains what players should do before the work and how they will recognise that service has returned. Include the practical details • Name the affected server or service. • Give the planned start with a date and time zone. • Describe the expected impact: joining unavailable, a restart, or a specific feature paused. • Give an estimated window only when there is a basis for it. • Identify where updates will appear. Avoid a promise you cannot support An estimate may change after a failed check or unexpected dependency. If the work takes longer, explain the current state and the next update point. Do not repeatedly promise an immediate return while investigation continues. Keep changes and verification separate Uploading an update is one stage. Starting successfully, checking the relevant features and confirming that players can connect are later stages. A final notice should state which checks were completed and any known remaining issue. For planned player sessions, leave space between maintenance and the event start. Ask people to save their progress through the game's normal process and avoid starting long activities just before the announced window. Keep old notices dated so a reader can distinguish completed work from an upcoming interruption.
