A coherent build does not need dozens of block types. A small palette can make the shape easier to read and reduce the amount of material you need to collect.
Start with roles
Choose a main surface, a structural accent and a detail material. Ask what each contributes. A darker edge can help a doorway stand out; a contrasting roof can separate it from the wall. Use these as design choices, not rules that every style must follow.
Build a sample first
Make a small wall, corner and doorway in a suitable test area. Look at them in the lighting where the finished build will be used. Walk away and view the shape from the normal approach. Detail that looks impressive close up may disappear at the distance players actually see it.
Control repetition
Repeat a useful pattern often enough that the structure feels intentional. Introduce a change at an entrance, landmark or important turn. Adding contrast everywhere can make every surface compete for attention.
Check the practical cost
If the project is in survival, choose materials your group can obtain within the agreed effort. A palette that depends on a rare block may work better as an accent than a whole wall.
Save a sample board and a short material list so collaborators can follow the same direction.
